Imagine being trapped in a toxic marriage filled with domestic violence, yet every day, you must go to work and convince the world that everything is fine. You are torn between two impossible choices&mdash;ending your suffering through divorce or staying for the sake of your children while fearing society&rsquo;s judgment.
In a powerful and heartbreaking scene from the series&nbsp;&lsquo;80 Baku&rsquo;, domestic violence takes center stage, exposing the brutal reality of a woman suffering at the hands of her husband. The character Abeer, portrayed by Rahma Ahmed, she is trapped in an agonizing dilemma: should she endure the abuse to maintain her so-called &ldquo;home,&rdquo; or should she break free and risk being condemned by society?
As she confides in those around her, their responses reveal the deep-rooted divide in societal attitudes. Intisar&rsquo;s character pressures her to tolerate the abuse, reinforcing the toxic belief that a woman&rsquo;s duty is to endure suffering to keep her marriage intact, no matter the cost. In stark contrast, Huda El Mufti&rsquo;s character encourages Abeer to leave, reminding her that remaining in such a toxic environment is not only unjust but also dangerous, Meanwhile, Entesar&rsquo;s character convinces her that the problem isn&rsquo;t her husband but herself&mdash;implying that his abuse is her fault for not being &lsquo;polite&rsquo; enough.

But is it truly the woman who breaks the home, or was it already shattered by the abuse she endured?
80 Baku&nbsp;is a wake up call for us to confront this difficult question, challenging outdated societal norms and advocating for a woman&rsquo;s right to safety and dignity. Rather than shaming survivors for seeking freedom, it is time to shift the blame where it truly belongs&mdash;on the culture that normalizes abuse and silences victims.
A marriage built on fear and violence is no home at all. The true act of courage lies in breaking the cycle, and the real shame is in a society that allows such suffering to persist in silence.
