What began as an ordinary Cairo morning shifted as Zamalek Cinema became a meeting point between two ancient civilizations. Today, Saturday, 29 November 2025, Chinese Film Week in Egypt opens its doors, not only with a film screening but also with a clear message: cinema is emerging as a powerful bridge between Cairo and Beijing.

The event launches with the premiere of &ldquo;The Lychee Road,&rdquo; also known as &ldquo;Chang&rsquo;an De Li Zhi,&rdquo; directed by and starring Da Peng. The film was announced yesterday during a press conference in Cairo attended by nearly 50 filmmakers and industry figures from both Egypt and China, reflecting a shared ambition to expand collaboration, support joint film production, exchange expertise, and strengthen cultural ties.

Mao Yu, Executive Deputy Director-General of the China Film Administration, highlighted the deep cultural connection between Egypt and China, noting that their status as two of the world&rsquo;s oldest civilizations makes cinema an essential tool for bringing their peoples closer. He said the direct discussions held during the conference mark the beginning of a structured new phase of cooperation across the film sector and reaffirmed China&rsquo;s readiness to broaden its partnership with Egypt in creativity, production, distribution, and films that reflect the richness of both cultures.

Chinese Film Week, he said, provides a practical opportunity to deepen cinematic partnerships, introduce Egyptian audiences to new trends in Chinese cinema, and pave the way for future co-productions.

Chinese Film Week continues at the Chinese Cultural Center in Cairo, presenting a selection of recent Chinese releases, including the animated film &ldquo;I Am What I Am 2,&rdquo; &ldquo;The Shadow&rsquo;s Edge,&rdquo; the animated feature &ldquo;Nezha 2,&rdquo; &ldquo;Dead to Rights,&rdquo; and the documentary &ldquo;The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru.&rdquo;
