Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz Reunite
Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are returning as Rick O’Connell and Evelyn O’Connell, the characters they first played in ‘The Mummy’ (1999), directed by Stephen Sommers.
They will be joined by returning cast members John Hannah as Jonathan Carnahan, Oded Fehr as Ardeth Bay and Kevin J. O’Connor as Beni Gabor. Michael Johnston and Numan Acar are also among the announced cast.
The reunion brings Fraser and Weisz back together after their appearances in the original film and its 2001 sequel, ‘The Mummy Returns’. Weisz did not appear in the third film, ‘The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’ (2008), in which Maria Bello played Evelyn.
The Story Behind The Mummy Franchise
The franchise began with ‘The Mummy’ in 1999. The film follows adventurer Rick O’Connell and librarian Evelyn Carnahan as they explore the ancient Egyptian city of Hamunaptra and accidentally awaken Imhotep, a high priest cursed for his forbidden love.
The story continued with ‘The Mummy Returns’ (2001), in which Rick and Evelyn, now married with a son, face the resurrected Imhotep and the Scorpion King.
The third film, ‘The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’ (2008), moved the action to China, where the family confronts an ancient emperor brought back to life with supernatural powers.
The new film will reunite Fraser and Weisz in their original roles. Reports suggest that it will continue the story established by the first two films rather than follow the events of the third instalment. However, the filmmakers have not yet disclosed the full plot.

Their involvement brings a new creative team to the long-running franchise. The film is scheduled for release on 15 October 2027, although further story and character details remain undisclosed.
