Egypt has launched a new platform, Wa3i.net, aiming to promote digital citizenship and safeguard children in the online world. The initiative marks a major step towards building a safer digital society.
Official Launch on Safer Internet Day
The platform was unveiled under the Digital Citizenship and Online Protection Initiative, with Engineer Raafat Hindi, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology, overseeing the launch. The announcement coincided with Safer Internet Day in February and is designed to empower citizens, particularly children and young people, to use technology safely and responsibly.
The launch event was attended by Dr. Sahar El-Sonbaty, President of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood; Natalia Winder Rossi, UNICEF Representative in Egypt; Chitose Noguchi, UNDP Resident Representative in Egypt; and senior government officials.

An Integrated Arabic Platform
Wa3i.net is one of the first comprehensive Arabic platforms focused on digital citizenship and online safety. It provides interactive content for children, adolescents, parents, teachers, and seniors, covering digital awareness, identity building, critical thinking, managing online risks, and protecting personal data. Families and educators are also offered practical guidance to protect children in the digital space.
Strengthening Institutional Cooperation
During the launch, the Ministry of Communications and the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood signed a Memorandum of Understanding to reinforce collaboration on child online protection. Officials stressed that safeguarding children online is a national priority, especially amid concerns over cyberbullying, digital addiction, exposure to harmful content, and online exploitation.
National Strategy and Measurable Impact
The initiative supports Egypt&rsquo;s National Cybersecurity Strategy 2023&ndash;2027, which places human security at the centre of digital transformation. Since its launch, Wa3i.net has trained more than 2,300 teachers and youth, held awareness seminars for parents, and organised interactive workshops reaching thousands of children across Egypt.
